@ikeWren honestly I think the rise of video essays as the preferred "media analysis" format outside of academia has something to do with this. imo it is much harder to effectively communicate very abstract theoretical concepts through audiovisual format. I've only seen a handful of videos do this well, a lot of videos are just people who like to hear themselves talk and look good on screen

@lydiaposting what's weird is that inbreeding and the founder effect are bad for the health of any population, but somehow this magically doesn't apply to dogs. it's almost as if the point of eugenics is reproductive control and not genuine concern for their welfare. imo you can't call yourself a feminist and purchase a puppy from a breeder

@esvrld as a white Jewish american who's seriously exploring Buddhism it's extremely frustrating to see how memed and commercialized the religion is in this country. a lot of westerners (especially online) don't really see Buddhism as a religion, they see it as a product to shoehorn into secular therapy, purified of its "superstitious" Asian trappings. if you bring up parts of the religion besides well-known stuff like meditation people think you're weird, taking it too seriously, or they just don't believe you
