@feld @MossGrowsOnNormanRuins @georgia @scathach sexual attraction is known to be extremely complicated (which is why it's STILL being studied after all these years) and monosexuality in general relies on layers upon layers of socially constructed systems for its existence to make any sense at all . and yes i am in fact afraid of that happening because it Has Been Happening for the past 150 fucking years and is Continuing To Happen

@fiore @MossGrowsOnNormanRuins @feld @georgia @scathach my point is that you should interrogate the paradigm of psychology and neuroscience and understand why it's useful for there to be some deterministic trait behind gay and trans beyond it proving that we deserve to exist under that paradigm

@fiore @MossGrowsOnNormanRuins @feld @georgia @scathach yeah exactly . scientific racism makes perfect sense under its own paradigm it's only once people started interrogating that paradigm on an ideological basis (antiracism) that it stopped making any sense

existential threat

@scathach @MossGrowsOnNormanRuins @feld @georgia and re:moss's point about the gay brain existing anyway, the entire concept of the gay brain is predicated on a system of knowledge that is grounded in an ideology that denies its own existence and asserts that there are Single Defined Traits that *cause* somebody to fall into a socially constructed category and *that category* prescribes behavior . you can see this also wrt autism and how it's a basically arbitrary set of behavioral classifications that no common neurological cause* has been found for . to me it should be obvious why this is a Bad Idea and complete bullshit also

@scathach @MossGrowsOnNormanRuins @feld @georgia my point was that there is an underlying ideology behind why the sciences are seeking and finding a gay brain and that this ideology is not good for us , but admittedly that got lost when i was writing that up

@MossGrowsOnNormanRuins @feld @georgia @scathach i lost my original point along the way somewhere here but this is ultimately what it's all about anyway

@feld @MossGrowsOnNormanRuins @georgia @scathach justifying things by their naturalness is stupid and regressive and im tired of pretending that neurological determinism is progressive . it isnt and it never has been just like any kind of determinism . i dont really care if being gay or trans is a choice or not because everyone should be able to choose to Do gay or trans regardless . the glorification of ‘nature’ has nothing to offer us

@feld @MossGrowsOnNormanRuins @georgia @scathach i take issue with the idea that there can be some static neural predisposition to complex behaviors like sexuality . shit like emotional dysregulation or sex drive are pretty simple in comparison, but sexual and gender orientation involve a lot of extremely complex social and cultural context and it's not like xyz neurotransmitter can change all that

@MossGrowsOnNormanRuins @feld @georgia @scathach part of the issue is that i just categorically disagree with the idea that there is objectively a gay brain and a straight brain lol , i have not seen any science that is sufficiently convincing to prove this and to my knowledge we have such a poor understanding of what's even going on in there to say that gay and straight cognition and behavior emerge from some preexisting condition of the brain or whether some other shit is going on . maybe im wrong about this and there's some new science about it since then that somehow proves this but it's all very dubious to me

@georgia @MossGrowsOnNormanRuins @feld @scathach yeah i agree that "gender is a feeling" is reductive and counterproductive but i also think that the neuroscience of gender is kinda dubious , lowkey eugenics-coded , and reinforces the psychiatric-state-industrial complex so i do think that we ought to use something somewhat better . same thing for the "gay brain" . using these things is not conducive to a liberatory biopolitics . my foundational text for this is "American Eugenics" by Nancy Ordover , i highly highly recommend it

my new idea for a theme park :

you get to the entrance, 2 elf bars taped to your hands and you gotta finish them before you leave . and at midnight i release a squad of men to gun you down if you’re still in my park and also a pack of hungry wolves because i just think that’s kinda cool

@ammayday @YKantRachelRead that's pretty much the kinda shit I've been on for like.. a decade? it's obviously become more of an immediate concern since this second Trump term but I've always taken it as a given that there's not really any realistic path forward for being a trans person in these times other than toughing the fuck up and figuring out how to survive, and the best way to maximize our ability to survive is by also working together and forming whatever networks we can. but that being said it feels like I've been on this shit for so long while watching more and more transfems go from being the babytrans phase of gullibility, believing that you can simply transition and exist as a transfem without effectively having to exist thenceforth in a state of constant total war with the world around you, to then experiencing some catastrophic consequence of transmisogyny like being HAL'd (if they aren't privileged enough to avoid this entirely) and if they survive it they're left a broken, traumatized, isolated wreck and usually are more susceptible to then experiencing repeat abuse and trauma.

I've been trying and doing what I can but like this shit is not working. even if only on a small-scale local level of affinity groups or whatever, we all need to get way more organized than just helping each other out in like mutual aid type ways (even if it's real mutual aid and not just giving each other $20). like we need to become way more militant about claiming space from opportunists and transmisogynists, we need to raise consciousness and radicalize more girls early on, and we need to be able to take care of our own so that the problematic trannies aren't left to fend for themselves.

even this is all the bare minimum too because it doesn't address any of our material problems but like we're really at square zero it feels like where we as a class of people are being systematically disintegrated, and the thing I have worried most about isn't the hypothetical "what if they put us in camps" shit (which frankly I doubt the capacity of this administration to pull off something that logistically complex) but that no one recognizes we're in a war of attrition and does not have the correct strategic responses to it.
