I think I understand the balloons in VS clockwork at least a bit more now. you get your hot air from… somewhere and then just like. send that straight into the gas nozzle. and you just gotta turn the thing by tiniest amount to tweak the target temp which it will either slowly drop to or rapidly increase to. the sweet spot for just enough lift (i.e. won’t immediately fly into the fucking mesosphere) seems to be somewhere under 300K, but it’ll depend on how heavy the thing is. need to do more research into actually generating hot air though … I think steam boilers can do it? do compressors affect temperature or just pressure?
