a few years ago we read a fictional suspense story, we think its title was “thinking machine” or something similar, about some sort of malware that had weird, nonsensical groups of instructions. almost like it evolved organically on its own by trial and error.
our memory is a little fuzzy but when trying to probe it through physical equipment as it moved through the network it somehow made the equipment just… not detect it at all to the technicians’ dismay. we think the story’s setting was in the 80s or so. old machines.
thing is, search engines being complete and utter crap nowadays, looking for the obvious keywords only turns out AI slop, or slop about AI companies, so we can’t find it anymore. anyone know what story we’re talking about?
boosts appreciated cuz we feel like we’re losing it.
