Anyone else get the encroaching sense that the average person really just wants death as a political position

Like I cant possibility be the only one who's looked at (America's) cultural obsession with nostalgia and thought "this really reminds me of that old consept of life flashing before your eyes"

@yohan most evangelicals seek to bring about armageddon and the conservative political sphere at least in the USA is dominated by evangelicalism so yes "kill everyone and end the world" is in fact a dominant ideology

@yohan not really , there's been a good amount of pushback lately which i think will continue to grow (because shockingly most people actually dont like being miserable) . i think that it isn't really that the average person believes in a politics of death but rather that the average person is not politically minded enough to recognize that that's the politics that they support; the people actually organizing the bullshit are a very influential and very small minority (see:project 2025) . it's similar to how the people pushing against trans people are a very influential minority and then the average person doesn't have enough critical thinking skills to question it

@yohan the question i think is sort of whether things will move quickly enough to cause death and destruction on an apocalyptic scale and i think it's really unlikely that they do

@yohan in other words the average person believes in conservatism or neoliberalism which is only partially a politics of death and a malicious minority has hijacked it to turn it into a doomsday cult

@ikeWren but you believe its very unlikely that said minority will be able to do much of anything in the longterm even with having all the resources behind them. (Like how most people really dont care much about trans people when you get down to it)

@yohan pretty much ! (and trans people will eventually win this stupid fuckass culture war because it's functionally impossible to kill us in a way that's sustainable)
