Western astrology = the astrological system of 12 zodiac signs and circular charts best known in the West, though it was heavily influenced by Middle Eastern sources

tropical astrology = defining zodiac signs by the seasons rather than actual positions of the constellations that correspond with said zodiac signs

academic astrology = typically, astrologers who rely a lot on historical sources to reconstruct how astrology was done in the past; not usually academics of esotericism (who are often skeptical of astrology)
