@georgia tbh I don't think the hackintosh people care much about using something like macos specifically, they just care about be bisexual eat hot chip lie look pretty etc. thus I anticipate a plurality of them transitioning into being linux ricers over the next few years

@allison @georgia year of the Linux desktop soon. thousands of fluoridated midwit ricers demanding free labor from unpaid contributors on fascist meme distros funded by Palantir and Israel

@georgia hyprland is a wayland tiling wm with a whole bunch of eyecandy and special effects stuff baked in, the folks wanting to replicate the *box experience on wayland usually use labwc instead

@nyx @georgia all the while a different contingent of flouridated ricers seek to exactly duplicate every half-assed weeb rice from the 90s, right down to the requisite low quality serial experiments lain wallpapers and questionable window decoration choices

@coolbean @georgia @nyx those are the ones I respect tbh, they're at least doing something interesting even if they're largely retreading old ground

@coolbean @georgia @nyx also, perhaps more importantly, they haven't lost their whimsy and sense of joy and wonder at life

@coolbean @georgia @nyx https://archive.org/details/tucowsunixthemes if e16, you may be interested to see that I found an intact copy of tucow's unix themes section from back in the day and neatly packaged it up (this also applies for window maker and kde 1/2 users)

@coolbean @georgia @nyx e16, window maker, and ctwm all feel like endgame wms to me, if I'm ever forced to stop using mate I'll probably land on one of the three

@allison @coolbean @nyx I used mate for like a year before switching to xfce with the whiskermenu. I really love it but I'm gonna have to switch to KDE and learn to love that.

@ikeWren @coolbean @georgia @nyx if I had to guess something about x11 support (or lack thereof) on apple silicon, nothing really wrong with xfce itself

@ikeWren @coolbean @allison @nyx I dont have to switch but ive been meaning to for a while and asahi linux seems to work best with KDE. maybe I'm being foolish though and it would work equally well.

@georgia @coolbean @ikeWren @nyx xfwl is making steady progress, so I'd say if it doesn't work well now, it probably will within a few months to a year

@ikeWren @coolbean @allison @nyx I like that attitude but unfortunately I didnt want to spend a ton of money for the same build quality

@allison @coolbean @ikeWren @nyx my ideal situation is probably a future framework with the IME disabled/coreboot/physical privacy switch and ravynos. I can dream that such a thing will exist one day but till then...
