@winter an update to this story, brought to you by the relevant material safety data sheet:
(this is for *powdered* tungsten, but you can imagine, this is relevant)
the powdered form is a mild skin irritant and has some reproductive toxicity when absorbed orally, the wikipedia mentioned this can even affect ground worms, and states that a powder release should be disposed of properly
the proper method: heat it in an afterburning furnace, it burns into tungsten oxide
@estelle how about superheating it via atmospheric entry and then vaporizing it in a mach 10 impact, would that oxidize it all?
@winter so, it's entirely possible that your original plan has no flaws
...but tungsten *is* really hard to work with...
@winter it's probably hot enough to form a lot of interesting compounds if it wants to but oxygen seems very likely
