as a reminder, 'zio' is a slur for Jews popularized by neo-Nazi and former KKK Grand Wizard David Duke. the context in which it's used is generally as a substitute for 'Jewish' in antisemitic conspiracy theories - i.e., "zio media," "zio bankers," "zio globalists."

it's an easy mistake to make, but when talking about Zionists or Zionism, please just type out the full words.

@YKantRachelRead The ever decreasing distinction between "Zionist" and Jewish within Leftist contexts increasingly worries me. I'm already seeing "leftists" use Nick Fuentes-ass slang because Bad Empanada made it coolâ„¢ to call Black people "Goyslaves"

@maidservantofnanaya imho, Bad Empanada should take his brand of leftism-plus-bigotry and walk into a very deep, very turbulent ocean. preferably with some lead pool floaties.

@YKantRachelRead reminds me of the most logical shortening of "Japanese" blob_sweat (I'm still pissed it got turned into a slur cat_angry )

@tides @YKantRachelRead I wish Hasan would like... vet the assholes he promotes (ironically now BE and Hasan hate eachother) but you aren't allowed to question "the future of Leftism"

Ah well you know the old saying "The Revolution won't be Televised"? The revolution won't be reaction-streamed on Twitch

@maidservantofnanaya @tides Hasan himself is a nepo baby (Cenk Uygur's nephew), so I'm unsurprised that he has no principles to speak of

@OctaviaConAmore yep - or how 'Jew,' as used by non-Jews, can be a slur depending on the context

@YKantRachelRead I feel this is prudent for pretty much any other minority as well.

Unless you specifically know the minority *likes* the moniker don't use it.

Even without exposure to misuse, abbreviating group names had a decent chance of landing on a version with nasty associations.

@maidservantofnanaya @YKantRachelRead BE was angry about being a settler so he emigrated so that he could be a settler in a more "leftist" country. his politics are a parody of itself

@maidservantofnanaya @YKantRachelRead there's also a big issue with the term "zionist" itself, which is way too polysemic.

It's too often seen as a synonym of supremacist or "aligned with the genocidal views of Netanyahu", but I've seen many jews telling they're zionists AND openly opposing Netanyahu and supporting Palestine. For those people, their definition of zionism is "the right of Israel state to exist without any will to expand the borders".

If we limit ourselves by telling all people that define themselves as zionists are enemies, we're making a mistake.

@orange_lux @maidservantofnanaya no nation-state has the "right to exist," least of all a recent (historically speaking) settler-colonialist project aimed at bringing about the end of the world. your "Zionists who support Palestine" still support settlers remaining on stolen Palestinian land.

@YKantRachelRead @maidservantofnanaya so you're vetting for the destruction of the whole Israel state then?

@orange_lux @maidservantofnanaya @YKantRachelRead I believe in a no state solution. no state has the right to exist

@tsvga @maidservantofnanaya @YKantRachelRead OK, let's start with Europe and America first, then.

(I mean, I'm quite OK with that last sentence but it feels like you're dodging the question here).

@orange_lux @maidservantofnanaya @YKantRachelRead I'm not dodging the question, you just don't read. when I say no state has the right to exist, that includes the US and all European states, as well as ethnostates like Israel

@tsvga @maidservantofnanaya @YKantRachelRead I understood that.

But as that's not a thing that's going to happen in the next few decades, what's the best thing to do right now?

@tsvga @maidservantofnanaya @YKantRachelRead also, I'm all for the "no states should exist", but if we don't start by changing OUR states first, that looks like colonialism.

@orange_lux @maidservantofnanaya @YKantRachelRead as a Zionist you have absolutely no place in discussions about how to solve colonialism. you are a colonialist.
