i've been saying for years that the idea that criticising someone equates to 'giving them a platform' is nonsense but both the democrat and republican establishments seem set on proving me wrong by pasting pictures of hasan piker's chiselled body and reasonably correct opinions over every possible channel

just complete disconnect from reality. 'hey this hot guy you've never heard of before says israel bad!!!'

i mean i wouldn't care about hasan at all if it weren't for the critics constantly making him look incredibly cool and sexually desirable, and i'm pretty online

@esvrld I would leave a more detailed comment about how exhibiting Hasan's body on the big screen brings to mind the oft-racialized portrayal of Muslim men as sexually aggressive and predatory, combining both sexual and political threat in Hasan as a leftist who was also raised Muslim. but it's 1am so I'm going to bed

@nautilus perfectly explicable why the obsession with hasan would develop. yet the end result is still farcical and simply fails as racial propaganda because it can't even frame hasan as a threat competently, it just frames him as hot

@esvrld I think back when there was something approaching a consensus reality, like 20+ years ago, having both wings of the ruling class condemning you simultaneously was well nigh a political death sentence.

Now? People are like "wait, everyone actively making my life shittier hates this guy? Perhaps I should see what he's all about."

And the fact that he is an objectively beautiful human doesn't hurt.
