I keep coming across this argument against vegetarian and veganism that comes down to "There's so much human exploitation in the production of plant based foods!" And like, ok, yes, but have you SEEN the meat industry? Because the human rights situation there is pretty fucking dire.
I'm not even trying to get everyone to become vegetarian! But the demand for beef in particular is environmentally unsustainable from a climate change perspective, and that's something we need to deal with as a species.
And like, when your answer to "Hey, the meat industry is cruel and destroying the planet" is "WELL ACTUALLY there are labor violations in plant based food production!" that doesn't really sit well with me. For one thing, we can tackle both those problems. For another, it kind of seems like you're just looking for an excuse not to change anything.
