i love when people are shocked i live in the united states. so many times people assume i'm from other places. i think that means i am doing something right

@brettm i am actually east asian mixed but i would imagine the other half is from europe somewhere. i have never done a dna test to know for sure

oh, interesting! i'm irish ancestry but further back is some spanish. and you would never know to look at me but apprently there was some indian genes too (at least, someone in ireland told my parents that). i never did a dna test either. my old boss told me the spanish part probably came from the spanish armada fighting the english, the used to go home via circling round ireland (following the winds to get home) and sometimes the ships would crash onshore and sailors would hook up with the locals.

@iam @brettm those ancestry tests are not a reliable way of determining anything about your culture or identity. imo their popularization has been extremely harmful because they reify race and ethnicity as "objective" biological/genetic categories

plus they're a privacy nightmare
