I still subscribe to toilet theory but it just occurred to me that maybe onion was killed for getting too close to going out of bounds and realizing that the world lowk a game

cause like. that's what happens during the weird route. you don't notice it but Kris and Noelle literally go outside of that room. if you compare the map of that room, which is already a very long room, to what's shown in the cutscene, they actually get a little bit further. it's just more water, but... it turns dark green, and Noelle's sprites stop being underwater once out of bounds.

isn't that interesting?

since so many other things are diegetic, I don't see why map structure and the top-down perspective wouldn't be either, which means they've never actually been able to see anything on "the other side of the lake." and I don’t think there's anything there, either. not any "thing" as they would understand "things" to be; it's outside the confines of the game, to them, the world stops. but they went out there.

but what that could mean? I'll have to think about that. maybe the striped bird is waiting for them as well? ha ha ha. just kidding. well who knows

I don't think they drowned though. unless "1 ending" is a lie, and I don't see why they wouldn't be able to pull that off still. something bad is gonna happen though. something real nasty.
