the recent rsync controversy (and vim before that) has got me thinking how absurd and bleak it is that the response free software devs keep having to burnout is not that maybe it's actually a bad thing for this attitude that's become more prevalent in free software of owing your unpaid labor to corporations and entitled domesticated users but to blindly follow suit with the rest of the tech industry of patching over the growing crisis in software complexity with statistical models producing code that no one down the line is going to know how to maintain.
like the whole point of free software was supposed to be that you contribute some code to the world that solves a problem for you, and if others have different problems they can contribute back to the project in some way. instead free software has exploded in how many systems rely on it while the average user is *less tech literate* and generally has more learned helplessness mentality that has been intentionally instilled in them by tech industry practices to capture markets and then hold them hostage.
even this version of myself that i present here . which has become more and more honest to the version of myself that i present elsewhere and desire to be . i am a complex person , sure , but i value simplicity
i should maybe change my username . as it is it kind of implies that i am a being that embodies complexity, evil, and/or misery ; i don't think that's an accurate descriptor of myself
few know this but all of language is magickal in nature, it's just that most of the time no one is focusing their will when they use words so the words end up using them
