my thoughts on this are in initial stages, but there’s something in the hyperfocus on the individual (see: manifestation, the secret) thats prominent in the Spiritual Girlie of western origin that leads to the detaching from reality, and later a lack of awareness and empathy (see: it’s not about power structures, it’s about your mindset), and so then suddenly the self absorption and callous thought patterns of right wing thinking become increasingly more palatable… idk. there’s something there.

@yohan in other words the average person believes in conservatism or neoliberalism which is only partially a politics of death and a malicious minority has hijacked it to turn it into a doomsday cult

@yohan the question i think is sort of whether things will move quickly enough to cause death and destruction on an apocalyptic scale and i think it's really unlikely that they do

@yohan not really , there's been a good amount of pushback lately which i think will continue to grow (because shockingly most people actually dont like being miserable) . i think that it isn't really that the average person believes in a politics of death but rather that the average person is not politically minded enough to recognize that that's the politics that they support; the people actually organizing the bullshit are a very influential and very small minority (see:project 2025) . it's similar to how the people pushing against trans people are a very influential minority and then the average person doesn't have enough critical thinking skills to question it

@yohan most evangelicals seek to bring about armageddon and the conservative political sphere at least in the USA is dominated by evangelicalism so yes "kill everyone and end the world" is in fact a dominant ideology

@salt it's fascist in the same way that a lot of linguistics is fascist which is to say not implicitly but there is a lot of entrenched fascism that certain people are trying to identify and fix. but like i feel like it would be difficult to construe toki pona as fascist for example

@hopeful i think this entire thought experiment is flawed because you do not have to fully agree with your friends about the truth . and also , one's own truth and friendships are both things that are constantly evolving and inform one another . they're parallel imo it's not a linear cause and effect
