@fujoshi reposting as a comment here because one of us switched scopes to follow only and I want everyone to see this
for whatever reason, I've been thinking today about the temporality of social media, and how our post histories render us vulnerable to someone sifting through to look for Problematic things.
and I feel like the reason why attacks a la "you said this four or five years ago, explain yourself" work so well is because those posts are essentially frozen in time. if you look up something I posted on here back in 2023 when I first started being really active on fedi, you'll see my name on there with the same helmet-kitty avatar. if you click on my name, it'll bring up the most current version of my profile.
in the eyes of some random onlooker, I might as well have made those posts yesterday. they're forever attached to me, hanging there in a moment in time, perpetually being spoken.
so is it any wonder why the social media age has resulted in the "you must Do No Wrong" brand of puritanical leftism, where we're constantly walking on eggshells and hoping that nobody finds something that can be construed as a judgment on our character, where we're all essentially trained to be a mini-Kiwifarms to each other?
