in the game I’m making, life (as we know it) was created by a bunch of magical spirits (the elementals) which in turn were created by the personifications of the 7 elements (or deities) (and there’s also lesser elementals cause they were suckin and fuckin each other and creating smaller versions of each other), and the deities were themselves created by The World Herself, at each step with the intent of perpetuating their own existence by, essentially, being able to place themselves as “higher” than their creations and feed on the worship of their creations. it’s not as bad as it sounds they’re mostly chill but the elementals were kinda fuckin crazy. that’s not important tho.
whether or not the deities originally had a physical form is not something I’ve thought about, but all the people (furries in case you didn’t know) who worship them have modeled them in their own image which has had an effect on their appearance. but what about those pesky elementals?? they were technically the first life, cause like, they had thoughts and shit. the element of fire doesn’t actually “think” but the elementals COULD. emergent property of slightly more complex beings. and I’ve been thinking about what THEY looked like.
so what I’ve kinda landed on is that maybe the elementals were like. jellyfish, slugs, corals, underwater invertebrates. weird fucked up amorphous blob creatures, you know. MOLUSCS.
And what I learned is that the larva of freshwater mussels have to parasitize on fish for the first part of their life. some mussels will form clusters of eggs that look like fish to use as bait and then release them when a fish tries to take a bite. and now their gills are full of mussel larvae. some will literally LURE FISH IN and CLOSE THEIR SHELL to trap the fish and just fucking blast them in the face and then release them. that’s gonna be more than just An Allegory for sexual assault if anyone takes inspiration for that.
underwater life is absolutely fucked up and I can do some great things with that
