this is actually wrong

it's stuck in the old thinking that ads are primarily meant to convince us to buy things

they're not, at least not in the normal rational sense

their primary purpose now is as propaganda blasting our minds day in, day out in order to fracture our sense of reality and demoralize us and destroy our literal cognitive ability to hope that the world could be better (or even just otherwise) than whatever the investor class will use to farm us for "value"

the relationship between these approaches is that between marriage and rape

@apophis advertising is the realization of "no means later" and "no means yes if you're forceful enough" at a massive scale. Repeat the lies and demands enough and you eventually get assent.
