we have just agreed that fields of electron probability with certain properties represents a “thing”
an atom is meant to be indivisible; its name literally means “connot be cut”
it appears that as of the 1940s not cutting an atom is more of a gentlemanly agreement than an actual physical law

an atom is a set of probabilities that “orbit” at resonant frequencies
there’s nothing there actually orbiting, there isn’t a lower level. it’s empty space containing only the concept of a resonant frequency, and a resonant frequency’s ability to bind with or repel other resonant frequencies.
it’s a vibration of nothing.
it’s as if we are nothing more than a chorus of billions of angels, and we emerge as matter out of the interference patterns in the ripples
xray crystalography creates a 2d image of an interference pattern produced by xrays interacting with the molecular structure of a crystallised substance.
you need to be a crystal to shape the wavefront of the xray into a pattern by repeating the structure over and over- and then you can reconstruct what the structure is from the pattern in the image.
Holograms also work by recording interference patterns onto film.
you can reconstruct a whole lightfield by shining unfocused light through diffraction grating carefully designed and imprinted on a 2D slide.
if matter is just another kind of interference pattern, and there’s clear methodologies for transforming between the 3d molecular structure and the 2d interference pattern
maybe star trek transporters aren’t all that far fetched
a hologram is literally just microscopic black and transparent stripes printed on ordinary 2D film.
it becomes what appears to be a 3d image because of the way light interacts with those stripes when they are tiny enough to block, transmit or reflect only a fraction of the light wave when the stripes are at the same scale as the light wave itself; a stripe is able to block wavefronts at the wrong frequency, angle and polarity letting through by interference only the 3d lightfield
it’s literally creating a sensory reality out of nothing but mathematics and lightwaves. It’s like fucking witchcraft

that makes it sound like they’re like, thousands of really tiny springy-snake-trapped in a can pranks, filled with snakes that in turn knock the lid off of neighboring snake cans

i can almost imagine directing an atomic bomb’s blast through a diffraction grating, and the dangersnakes reassemble themselves into infinite hamburgers on the other side of the diffraction grating.

@oblomov seems to me like we simply need a matter/antimatter reaction that we contain with an absurdly strong magnetic field
@bri7 now if only there was an easy to keep an absurdly strong magnetic field around, we'd have solved all our problems.
(Too early in the morning to remember well, but wasn't that one of the biggest problems that basically made the Tokamak (sp?) infeasible in practice for fusion energy production, because keeping the magnetic field sucked up more energy that can be produced in the fusion process?)
