fwiw i dont like fo run javascript on my servers but thats not because its inherently slow (it isnt, lol) or insecure (???) but because it feels kinda 2018-corpo-techbro-silicon valley vibes to me so its just . not my taste . but like if to you it feels different its whatever i guess , like . node is fast enough .
thats FE but like yknow some people like to pull all of it in the same basket so
@fiore In general I’ve never really understood passionate “hate” of a programming language, it feels very forced. Disliking using it or disagreeing with design decisions sure. But going out of your way to trash it feels very……childish.
@nagirin imean to be fair what we are talking ab out here is Not Liking JS For A Specific Usecase (backend).
like commonly opinions like these arent as bad imo, like “using a rust framework for your frontend is bound to give you some headaches” is a reasonable take , but in this case specifically the people that complain about it dont realize that like . Everyone Is Doing This. everyone is running a node backend and theres kinda nothing you can do about that ,
@fiore if js allowed me to do what i do i would use it bc js is properly standardised and has several implementations
and isn't as much of a piece of shit as c
@SRAZKVT yknow what fair enough . it is one of the few actually standardized multiply implemented languages . god dammit
@fiore does js suck ? yea. every language does. does the ecosystem suck ? like most other languages, yes.
@brettm honestly im much more mad about web browsers than i am about node
@fiore yea, there's c, scheme, but scheme doesn't standardise things necessary for write applications, common lisp is a mess of a language, c++ same as common lisp
then you have dead languages like pascal or sml, and langs that no longer follow their own standard, like haskell
@fiore this is honestly pathetic of the software engineering community
@SRAZKVT languages have gone from being a standardized baseline (yknow, a Language) to a Piece Of Software and thats just upsetting
@fiore honestly i don't know why languages like python, tcl and lua aren't standardised
@fiore they've passed the point in popularity where a language should become a standard
@SRAZKVT can you cw this i have ptsd from having seen Perl code once and it gave me trauma forever it was so ugly
@fiore you're a language that's used in safety critical environments, fast paced development with less boundaries isn't what you want
@nachtrabe @fiore That just holds with stuff in general outside programming……I go to uni I’ve had my fair share of stuff I don’t like forced upon me, that doesn’t mean need to be immature enough to stoop down to hating it just because I dislike it.
@sierra i slap that bitch like sierra slaps <script> tags on her pages
