the thing I find very annoying about how it's become a bit of a trend over the past decade or so in younger people to convert to various religions -- as a reaction to secular atheism increasingly feeling irrelevant to the lives of people today and also not being able to answer any of the big questions that people turn to religion for (not just to explain the world but also explain one's purpose in it) -- is that it's always so goddamn serious. everyone always has this sanctimoniousness about it borrowed from like diluted organized religious rhetoric and it's all so fucking boring.

it's actually virtuous to have a sense of humor about this stuff or else you'll end up being a vacuous asshole like everyone else zhuang (or just going insane in non-productive ways)

@nyx is it spiritually vacuous to have no spirituality whatsoever...?

conveniently none of this stuff is applicable to me because I don't follow religions and simply go directly to the source if I wanna experience god

@cyb3rm0shp1t how you get there is besides the point; you've either got the sauce or you don't unless someone teaches you the recipe.

@cyb3rm0shp1t @nyx william james writes about the concept of religious experience and how humans can do very specific actions to conduct a religiousity. examples he would bring up were like, blackout drinking or nature walks. you can go tap in and read about that if you want to get a sense of religious experience as a psychological function. the issue is more that the idea that there are fundamentally more or less religiously experiencial people ignores that its mostly a skill issue and also that you can just make meaning out of most aesops fables on the same level you could biblical stories. religion in general is just very 'swingy' and has bad RNG. i hate it.

@nyx this is where she says "i don't need to be anything, i figured it out on my own" and that's where I say, "spoken like a proper Jew!"
