a co-op "backrooms exploration" puzzle&survival game. you start on different floors, and you have to together reach the front desk for some reason? I reckon at some points you'll meet up but you'll also be kept separate a lot, so communication will be difficult. in your hotel rooms you can use the landline but otherwise you'll have to listen through walls/floor or maybe find a walking talking to use. most floors will be procedurally generated, some will be static like the floors you spawn on. I imagine "floor number" can actually be a seed used for the floor generator, and it just reserves specific numbers to not use the generator. anyways.
you have to explore on your own for the first part. or you could be in pairs depending on how many you play with. the floor you spawn on is basically empty, aside from items. yes. items. notebooks and pencils so you can write and draw. flashlights. walkie talkies. batteries. keys to different rooms (could be necessary to proceed later, or those rooms can have special loot.) perhaps some kind of weaponry? luggage bags & backpacks. I imagine there could be a lot of stuff. Also funny trinkets and charms.
the layout gets generated from pre-made rooms. hallways, turns, intersections. lounge areas and empty hotel rooms. doors locked by codes, keys, or puzzles. storage closets that lead to more hallways. heavy fire doors that require stamina to open. architecture that shouldn't exist. non-euclidean geometry via seamless portals. chasms. I mean, look, it's basically just the backrooms in a hotel. for maze reasons you might want to first generate the "correct" path between the stairs connecting the different floors, and then fill the rest in.
your starting floor is nice and bright, open windows, working lamps. the next floor you go to may be a little bit "dimmer" ... when it generates the floor progression there's a chance that the "light level" changes by one which makes it scarierrrr... perhaps there is scary creature in the darkness. one idea I have is for the doors to staircases to have a window on them to let light through, potentially the only source at the darkest "light level," and there could be a mimic's door that kills you if you try to enter and the only tell might be that the light from it flickers.
speaking of death: respawning. they could be rare but some hotel rooms can have a bed (+ working phone?) and if every players sleeps (or is dead) the game saves and you'll restart from there if everyone dies. people who are dead when the saves could end up in their last place. hmm, maybe there could be a haunting mechanic, where you have to be dead to reach some thing.. don't see that being needed to beat the game however, maybe just for specil trinket.
at the end of the game, your run can be evaluated by time taken, number of deaths, times slept, whether or not everyone was able to make it out, and secrets/trinket discovered
I guess that's about the gist of it
