@ellie reading this quote before the original post primed me to accept the idea that fucking a spinning blades thing is immoral, without further question. i only got confused when haters were brought up and i couldn’t understand the connection. i feel like i would have understood fine if i had seen the original post first
that said. those fancy bladeless fans could be a good starting point
and to answer your actual question. uhh probably depends on context. seems like it wouldn’t be immoral in the same way, cuz the power imbalance is less direct. but it might still be questionable bcuz its still a person who has been affected by your work and that might influence the way they perceive you. they probably know you as a famous or otherwise significant person, and they’re invested enough to have formed a strong opinion about your work, so you’re probably much bigger in their life than they are in yours, proportionally speaking. although maybe the absolute difference is small…
i guess it depends whether this is just someone who dislikes you/your work a bit, or whether they are a particularly prolific hater with a blog about it. i would argue the latter case would probably be immoral, because they’ve dedicated a chunk of their life to depend on your work, and that changes the way they can engage with you. while the former is maybe fine depending on circumstance, because they aren’t that invested and they don’t have a reason to be influenced by you if they don’t care for your work. i dunno
