the most common trend of complaints about common core i seem to see boils down to this:
you're trying to teach newbies to this chess variant by always emphasizing multi-stage strategizing and looking at the big picture and always stressing that in every lesson
but there are 50 different piece types with different and completely arbitrary movesets
not even pawns and shields or queens and aliens but shit like "the gorble of the first kind may only move backwards except when capturing, which only happens when the second (but not the first or third) quing is in check; compare the gorble of the second, which may only move while capturing but only along white squares forwards or backwards"
and the newbies are struggling to just remember what each piece does

this post brought to you in part by being an ESL learner being faced much later in life than normal (age 5) with the sheer arbitrariness of the nature of giving names to numbers
一 aka 1 = "one", pronounced "won", no rationale it's just done that way
二 aka 2 = "two", pronounced "too" like "me too" but don't you EVER get them conflated or you're stupid and suck
三 aka 3 = "three", no we're not going to teach you how to pronounce that consonant cluster we'll just let the other kids bully you until you get it right

a complete, total failure to use the visual aid to help provide perspective on relative sizes of things and how differently-sized things fit in relation to each other
but i'm not nearly as angry watching this video as i had been when i'd first seen that "food pyramid"... i think i'm finally mellowing out in my old age, or just more initially confused (and less inclined to assume the worst given that "food pyramid" came right out of Bush 2)
