it's only a dilemma because the question makes it sound like "save everyone" when, really, you're only in danger if you push the blue button. really, it's the "kill yourself unless everyone else kills themselves" button. the logical option is to press the Don't kill yourself button. obviously the question is worded so people think there actually is a valid choice to make here. who cares

first I ever heard about this thing was from a youtube short my opinion was handed to me fully formed on a silver platter. I agree with the guy, I mean.

@sierra mr beast popularized it by pulling the original twitter poll and reposting it. So he just popularized it but both options folded out with a blue majorly and it baffled ppl a lil.

@sierra yea but that was the point of what i was sating. Completely irrational self sacrifice is something mr. Beast had been cooking ppl on for a while so the outcome is unreliable.

@sierra a lot of blue voters in that poll may hwve just voted blue because they thought it might be the option to get jimmy’s attention on what a caring guy they are and give them thier 20 seconds of fame/chance at money

@fiore @sierra one of the strongest honestly if the majority came out with a comfidence of about 10 points more (65-70) id have no problem going in on blue. I just dont see the argument for it otherwise. Outside of protecting people with color blindness issues which is mostly just indictative of non-clarity in the scenario vs whats offerered.

@fiore @sierra youre saving the suicidal from themselves but this doesnt work for me because their suicidal action is taking others diwn with them in an attempt to protect them. It would be nice if 10 ppl made a monkey chain to catch 1 person from killing themselves by jumping off a building bit we shouldnt expect them to. You shouldnt have to be endangered by others suicidal actions.

@fiore @sierra what i find personally concerning is that a lot of ppl are moralizing that blue is right which seems to be window dressing for a social group with very low self preservation really. Like i get the idea is we are protecting our neighbor but we are doing it by… basically acting as a giant meatshield to a firing squad. When your voting without other ppl seeing theres no distinguishable difference between the first person running in and the last person coming to save them. It all happens simultaneously so its as if the most virtuous person is also still acting suicidally.

@Erato_Heti @fiore @sierra I think the reason one should vote blue is that one wouldn't want to live in a world where people don't lol

and even outside of that, I know it breaks down to a one-shot prisoners dilemma and red is the strictly dominant strategy, but what people get wrong about the prisoners dilemma I think is that though you end up with better material outcomes being a traitor, it does damage to your soul and it's a bit of a hylic interpretation of the game to think betrayal is better, the button game makes this potentially even worse, as you'll be forced to not only live your own cursed half-life but also share it with other such individuals if not enough people press blue

@Critias @fiore @sierra if even 1 person was forced to pick blue in advance this would make sense but since everyone can choose not toits fine. Like the concept that the traitor team is red is backwards fundamentally.

@Erato_Heti @fiore @sierra the only time blue becomes the morally correct decision is when it's an alien invasion and they're forcing babies and seniors with dementia and intellectually disabled adults to press it too

otherwise it is objectively the wrong decision

@haematophage @fiore @sierra blue is basically a hostage situation by way of assumed morals. If i pressed red and fiore pressed blue i would cry because she decided to get herself potentially killed (or actually died) for no reason. What blue majority tells me is that people live in such a lonely world they would rather potentially sacrifice themselves for the greater good than preserve themselves.

Fiore pressed that button! Because you all told her it was the right thing to do!! I hope youre happy for killing my best friend lain_cry1

@Erato_Heti @fiore @sierra well, for one thing we know now that people do choose blue whether they're forced to or not

but even absent that knowledge I think it's more so about choosing a world you want to live in and one where people picked red, even if they did so thinking everyone would, is just not as appealing because ultimately you do just ensure your own survival in a world of rugged individualism, while blue makes your survival dependent on everyone and enables their survival in turn

@Critias @fiore @sierra if we take what weve seen as given, we currently live in a blue enthusiastic world instead of a blue hesitant one. I dont think that world is good at all.

@Critias @fiore @sierra anyway i can see why patchuun stopped arguing about this it huts the point of redundancy pretty quickly. Interesting idea for a blogpost on the anthropology of it for a future point in time ig.
