thinking about execution by firing squad

a little crazy that they had to invent a new way to shoot someone dead because people usually don't feel too good about shooting people dead

@sierra the ways most people need to be broken before they're able to kill a person are horrifying too

@sierra I'm mainly talking about how most soldiers have to first be brainwashed and mentally crushed before they're able to pull the trigger on someone

@wire_witch @sierra meh that's like, combat. overcoming fight or flight and whatnot. execution is very easy and very different

@cyb3rm0shp1t @sierra I don't really think most people would be capable of just pulling the trigger while aiming at someone, I think not wanting to do so is the standard human response

@wire_witch @sierra i mean, if it's your job and you're socialized into considering the role of executioner to be an acceptable job for one to have that has few moral implications for you as an individual, it's probably really really easy actually

@cyb3rm0shp1t @sierra if you are socialized into believing that, then it would probably be easier, sure, but I just don't see a way anyone who actually thinks about what they're doing would be able to do such a thing and then still be able to look at themselves in the mirror, without first thoroughly dehumanizing themselves and/or the person they're executing

@cyb3rm0shp1t @sierra what I'm saying might be slightly affected by the fact that I am certain I would go completely insane or kill myself if I had to take someone's life, regardless of everything else, but my point still stands
