the opening scene really shows you how fucked up getting joined actually is, I'd say. they turn it into a ritual only and I mean ONLY because Kusimayu wanted to feel, like, "at home with it." the plurbs sing awesome peruvian songs and shit and the MOMENT she's unconscious they immediately stop, wait for her to be joined, and once it's over with they immediately just start packing up. it's almost like watching a culture die. I mean, sure, they still have all the knowledge of peruvian culture and quechuan and everything, but they don't *need* it anymore, so it gets discarded. they don't need their identities, their languages, or anything which defines one's identity, because they're already made happy by the pluribus virus. everything you've ever done become meaningless in the face of the hivemind. when they tell carol about it later you can really tell that it just straight up doesn't mean much to them. like you'd think there'd be some celebration in finally infecting one of the immune, given that they're actively trying to get Everyone but no it's just.
