@haematophage this is more a problem with patriarchal civilizations in general than with Islam specifically. for most of human history until like the early/mid 20th century it was unfortunately extremely common for children and teenagers to get married off to older men

However, only one major world religion has a prophet who did in fact according to their own traditions have sex with a nine year old girl. @haematophage I think this probably has more to do with the fact that Muhammad wasn't celibate, unlike Jesus. I would imagine there are plenty of references to important figures in the Old Testament for instance having child brides. I don't think it's a good thing, quite the contrary, but I think it's weird to focus on this specifically about Islam because it's a pretty common far-right dogwhistle and you getting more defensive about it only makes it weirder that you're choosing to die on this hill when like I said this is unfortunately a pretty universal thing in the ancient world unless you were literally celibate like Jesus lmao

@haematophage honestly I've already made my point multiple times in this thread that the problem is that patriarchy in general condones child rape, and that this is hardly a problem specific to Islam, so it's weird to focus on that specifically about it. if you want to reject all patriarchal religions on this basis, then fine, I am in agreement with you on that, but it's a racist bad faith argument to act like Islam is even remotely unique in this respect. and with that I'm muting this thread because I've put up with enough of you lashing out at me for trying to have a good faith discussion here

@haematophage i like some ancient greek myth. its nice being able to pick and choose specific gods to worship and seek favour with based around their specialisations and having them not actually be invisible forces and actually quite visible in reality as mostly just personifications of natural and cultural phenomena

idk just easier to get into when theres some tangibility involved and it doesnt impose any particular set of morals (nor intends to do that)
