what's the reason for it being in the book? is it something like easter calculation? or just some kind of obscure verse like "there were 659 cows and 659 sheep and 659 mules all together counting 1977 heads"

@eris there's lots of funny things that high-church folks (using the term loosely to include the Orthodox as well) do with numbers and finding 3s and 7s and 12s and 40s in everything, so i'm assuming that sort of thing is involved and possibly that this book was published in 1977

@eris the revised common lectionary is on a 3 year cycle so to know what lectionary year youre in you can divide by 3 and take the remainder where 0 = A

@eris so dividing the year by 3 isnt uncommon when interacting with the book. idk what the specific number there is significant for though if anything.

pretty much the only other calculations the book involves are even/odd year for the daily office lectionary and date of easter.

also there are 3 rcl years so each year focuses on a different synoptic gospel with bits of john sprinkled in

@apophis @eris yeah its the 1977 bcp bc thats when it was published. idk if thats when it was proposed or solidified though bc it takes ovrr 10 years of the church going “yeah we like this prayer book” for it to become the new prayer book
