it’s kinda pathetic that posts like these gotta be crossposted from tumblr: If anyone who thought like this ever dared to talk publically on mastodon they’d be mansplained to death

> hey bri why don’t you post publically or let me boost your posts very much?

federation sounds great until you find out you cannot actually permanently block infosex exchange or fosstodon only mute them, and you will be randomly subjected to Men With Very Important Opinions with no way to really control visibility beyond a followers only system which still somehow lets dudes in that feel entitled to my respect for their shitty opinions

@bri_seven clearly the answer is a tumblr account

@apophis the organisation crossed me personally too many times for me to feel excited about this idea

@bri_seven hence the strikethrough sadness

i have tried to post in a way that encourages an open and creative mode; as some people describe it; “yes and” instead of “no, but”

but people on mastodon interpret posts like that as declarations of war

one person, who i admit to kind of liking, decided that i was being a manipulative liar, and then got offended when i pointed out they were being kinda transmisogynistic

i mean, there could be some other reason they decided these things based on literally nothing but i am not really interested in perpetually begging for crumbs from someone who has already decided they don’t respect me

how dare i try and manipulate you into being creative and questioning your assumptions by sometimes saying provocative things i don’t entirely believe.

truly being silly and using hyperbole is something only abusers would ever do

i guess the lesson here is:

don’t make being traumatised your entire identity

and if you do, you’re just not gonna get along with me very well

because while indeed i too deal with trauma

despite that or perhaps because of it i am not going to accept being cast as your villain of the week

that’s what we in the ex-cult member business call a toxic environment

@bri_seven @apophis Surprising but also not surprising that the client/instance apparently ate the markdown instead of just not recognizing it and showing it as plaintext. Another marble in the "alas, federation" bucket

@bujold @apophis on the protocol level markdown is not transmitted. it is converted to html first, and mastodon recieves the html just fine, and then as a security measure strips out everything that isn’t a plain link.

I know this because i have spent a fair amount of time reading the source code

@bujold @apophis in essence mastodon cannot just “not recognise” the markdown and display it as plain text because the markdown never leaves the origin instance

@bujold @apophis not that it matters much but i just remembered it leaves <p> and <b> alone too

@bri_seven @bujold which just makes it more offputting that things with actual meaning like strikethrough and emphasis formatting get lost anyway...

@apophis @bujold if we allow strikethrough we allow communism, which endangers us all
