Poll for Sharkey (and other Misskey variant) users, Boost pls!!~ ​​

Do you know about these settings in the "Other" section of settings, specifically about showing replies and ensuring new follows also show supplies?

that is,, really really cool, awaa [especially being able to set it for individual users . want to be able to see all replies from entities that dont post a lot, but not get flooded by entities that post A Ton, awawaaa ;w;]

I was inspired to make this poll after seeing yet another person talking about people being creepy in replies to somewhat lewd photos (please don’t do this it’s not that hard gd), and I think part of the problem, or at least why it seems like people are just letting that shit slide is because Sharkey users, at least by default, don’t see those replies showing up in their home timeline. I feel like if more people were seeing these replies, they’d at least understand the problem better and maybe confront people who are doing the wrong thing.

I have no idea why this behavior is default in Sharkey, but it’s something that I change as soon as I set up a new account on a Sharkey instance, because if I follow you, I wanna see your public conversations with others, it’s how I find a high proportion of interesting content on fedi personally, and it goes a long way in taking the temperature of stuff going on imo.

@HaruEb I can’t do that with too many people or even my home timeline becomes overwhelming but I get it.

@Toni2167 I totally can understand that, and I feel it sometimes too (I follow over 1000 active accounts) and I get around the overwhelm with lists and turning off boosts, if that didn’t calm things down enough for me then I’d think about turning off replies, but for me i’d feel like I was missing out. I do like that you can do it on a per user basis too, for those few people who post a LOT of replies lol

@HaruEb i usually control that toggle on a per user basis. might not be the best way tho

@HaruEb i voted "I don't use Sharkey or a similar misskey variant" before i finished reading the option

i can see all follows' replies if i want but i generally stick to only replies to people i follow (*oma has 3 options - all replies, only replies to self and to other follows, only replies to self)

@HaruEb default is all replies

dunno if it's in upstream pleroma but the top of the feed has a little button that lets you change it on the fly

@HaruEb my answer: i did see them, but dont understand what theyre supposed to do (i see replies people i follow make. what does it mean by “new follows”? why are there two contradictory buttons that say selecting them is irreversible when one of them must necessarily already be the case? its just really confusing imo) and since i wasnt dissatisfied by the current experience i simply left it off

@toatrika I think it’s confusing because it’s specifically for “replies to others” self replies are set to show up and there’s no other setting for it as far as I know.

Last time I moved instance I forgot to se it and I can tell you it’s a different expereince, but maybe not better it’s hard to say
