Trump admin says $3 meals are totally doable in America.
A few things:
1 corn tortilla (large) = 100 calories
Cost per tortilla in a pack: $0.28
Subtotals: 100 calories, 28 cents
1 "piece" of broccoli: about 7.5 calories
Price per "piece": about $0.37
Subtotals: 107.5 calories, 65 cents
A "piece" of chicken: about 200 calories for a cheap bit like a leg.
Chicken prices varies wildly by type, so here's the average for raw legs which needs to be prepared— another unmentioned cost for the consumer): about $0.30 per ounce. A chicken leg is like 4 ounces. So $1.20 or so.
Subtotals: 207.5 calories, $1.85
The "one other thing" upon which Rollins simply did not expand could be extrapolated (in good faith) as some piece of fruit. Maybe an apple.
Median price of all apples in USA: $2.25 per pound.
One *entire* apple (red delicious, average 0.6 pounds):
calories avg: 82.5
Price per apple: $0.84
Grand totals per Trump Meal Plan:
Price: About $2.69
Calories per meal: about 394.
Normal number of meals per day (as Trump admin implied is all you need) 3. 3×394 =1,182 calories.
The average SEDENTARY male weighing 175 pounds needs between 2,000 and 2,200 calories a day in order to not literally starve.
Note also that this kind of meal plan simply does not address macro or micronutrients—especially for active adults (laborers, athletes, people with generally high metabolisms or special dietary needs). And THAT is to say nothing of children.
And this meal "plan" does not account for the prices of things like spices, salt, cooking oils or other necessary culinary ingredients.
I am 43 years old. I am an athlete and a laborer. I will begin to cut weight if I eat less than about 3,800 calories a day.
This is a starvation diet and I am positive they basically just ran these "simulations" with cruel, ascetic prompts through some AI or other.
The Trump Administration wants us poor, starving, scared, and desperate.
Just did the most normal fart. Sounded exactly like a stock sound effect.

Just a note because somehow it oftentimes gets overlooked when folks are getting hammered with scrapers:
Static websites can sustain an incredible amount of load on even a small server. You don't have to pick between people being able to view your content and people having to go through a captcha for read-only stuff. Only put the capchas on the parts of the site that must be dynamic.
I rode passenger today on a patrol watching for ICE in my neighborhood in Minneapolis.
Our ride was mostly uneventful, the neighborhood we patrolled has been a target but just not this afternoon.
It took me a while to follow everything that is going on, and I felt rather incompetent even as a passenger. These communities are rapidly developing processes and their own kind of professional standards even as new people are constantly joining in. There is a large set of Signal groups covering different portions of the city and into the suburbs, as well as many subdivisions for reactive response. There's a schedule of dispatchers who run calls, formal handoff, other support people to take notes and follow the chat. Drivers are trying to spot ICE, peering into the tinted windows (so many people have tinted windows!), looking up license plates.
There's a protocol that I don't yet understand for what to do when you encounter an ICE vehicle. Several times a day I hear the caravans of ICE and observers honking as they go down one of the streets by my house; protocol is only to do that after a direct encounter and ICE officers leaving their vehicle. I'm not sure what that implies in terms of numbers.
Throughout the neighborhood many corners had people in hi-viz jackets on guard. It was around the time kids were coming home from school. These are being organized separately, by schools, community organizations, churches, and the many ad hoc groups that are popping up block by block.
This is all heartening, and impressive, and also sad because it's not nearly enough. People are doing their best, but their best can only slow down ICE. We can't solve this from here.
My work in 2022 vs my work in 2025. Can you notice a difference that 3 years of practice makes?
