@eris I don't know a single couple that had one until marriage but apparently it's pretty common

@eris Me and my girlfriend have joint bank account but I direct deposit my paychecks into my gambling account and then just put like 200$ in the joint every few weeks. It's tough, but sometimes I do have to dip into the joint account when out gambling with the boys.

@arcana @eris it's a preference and trust thing, some couples might enjoy having it and others wouldn't

but yeah if a couple wants one then they can be handy

@epsi @eris If you can't trust to that level I'd argue that you shouldn't be in a relationship

@arcana @epsi it's easy to trust someone with everything you have. It's a lot harder to accept when they fuck you over even after 5 years of being together. It happens a lot

@eris @arcana I figured the right way to do a joint account is to keep separate ones and use the joint account just for shared household expenses

I would never put everything into a joint account

@epsi @arcana yeah financial independence is a must. You need to know you can pack up and leave at any time

This, not just because you don't trust your partner, but just, don't put all your eggs in one basket + you would also have a larger attack surface to get it scammed out / card stolen / whatever.
