The NixOS situation is not just 'drama', it's something much worse. Much of the recent conflict has revolved around Anduril, an arms dealer in the US. They use NixOS, and the project has repeatedly made space for them - allowing them to sponsor conferences, allowing their employees on the governance committee(!), and so on.
Anduril makes suicide drones that explode near people. They make missiles and many other offensive weapons. They also supply the surveillance towers for the US border, the ones that are used to track down and murder immigrants. And more recently, the Trump regime handed them a contract for autonomous border towers: https://archive.is/e2NcN
Anduril are Trump's buddies, there is a direct relationship there. They are also using NixOS. Space is repeatedly made for them in the project. It doesn't really get any more direct; every bit of work and praise that you put into NixOS goes directly into the murder machines that they manufacture for Trump's regime. A significant part of the community knows this and is okay with it, even trivializes it.
You're not going to elect your way out of this. NixOS is very directly fascist tech now. It's used by fascists, and governed by fascists. And I think that to a lot of people it has never become quite clear just how direct this connection is.

@joepie91 to be fair any and all big open source projects are also used by arms manufacturers,
and accepting sponsorship of those that use your products is also not really that uncommon.

@joepie91 i do think that if *somehow* the nix project kicked every cppnix member to the curb in a full SC reelection and then actually banned all the fascists for real (and yes this includes tomberek), *maybe* there could be healing.
but as long as the status quo enjoyers continue to have a place in governance and as long as we don't have a constitutional provision saying fascists aren't welcome and as long as that's not enforced, it's cooked with no way to regain the community trust that has been systematically destroyed by the cppnix team members and their friends over the past five years.
nothing less is sufficient to heal from this, and so i don't feel welcome in the nix project.
